The introduction to the different categories of stick strikes…including slashes, jabs, thrusts, escapes from wrist grabs (weapon retention), simple combinations, basic counters and recounters, and all the associated footwork.
The gamut runs from forward or fluid strikes, to reverse strikes (striking from any angle from any chambering position), to broken strikes (jabs or retracting strikes), witiks (or fanning strikes) and vertical strikes (from both inside and outside chambers).
The next step superimposes what is learned in the basics of striking onto various footwork patterns. Adjusting the upper and lower body to develop mobility and power generation is a key aspect of the system.
Working the aforementioned skills with partner in concert then develops the sense of timing and distance needed for any part of the system to be functional.
